Questions have a way of propelling us forward toward our goals and dreams. The following 6 questions if answered rigorously will help you have your best year ever.
1. What worked for me in 2017?
You achieved some things this year. Maybe you didn’t achieve everything you wanted, but you DID achieve something.
Make a list of the top three things that worked best for you. Then ask yourself, why did this work? And finally ask, How could I make it work better?
Build on this positive momentum. Keep up the good work and make it even better.
2. What didn’t work for me?
Is there something you tried and then found out that it just didn’t work for you? Find out why.
Did you go about it in the wrong way? Was it a good idea poorly executed? Was it a bad idea?
Then ask yourself, Do I need to fix it or let it go? Don’t agonize over it, just make a decision and move on. Improve it and make it work, or let it go.
3. What could I have done better in 2017?
You no doubt can think of something that worked, but it could have worked better if you had worked better at it. Maybe you gave only half-effort. Maybe your mindset was off. Maybe you were inconsistent or not persistent enough.
What could you improve? HOW will you improve it?
4.What is my commitment level?
Are you committed to your goal or merely interested in it. There is a difference between interest and commitment.
“When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when it’s convenient. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.” – Ken Blanchard, Author of self-leadership and the one minute manager
Do you need to adjust you goal down or raise your commitment level? It is most likely the latter. If you really desire what you’re going after, raise your commitment level. You can make it happen.
5. Is your WHY strong enough?
If you truly want something bad enough, you WILL find a way.
It all begins with WHY. “People don’t buy what you do; they buy why you do it. And what you do simply proves what you believe” ― Simon Sinek, Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action
“If your why is strong enough, you will figure out the how.” – Bill Walsh, former head coach of the San Francisco 49ers
6. If I could go back to the beginning of this year and start to do just one thing daily that would have the biggest impact on my business what would it be?
What one thing would make the biggest difference in your business?
For the Apostle Paul it was his calling. Philippians 3:13-14 “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But this one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
“In the number one Wall Street Journal bestseller, The ONE Thing, Gary Keller has identified that behind every successful person is their ONE Thing. No matter how success is measured, personal or professional, only the ability to dismiss distractions and concentrate on your ONE Thing stands between you and your goals. The ONE Thing is about getting extraordinary results in every situation.”
I can’t wait to see what you accomplish this year.
